Doctor Who...again

When I picked this theme I thought of all the odd
aliens and monsters I could draw
and how I would pick just ONE of those!!

Then I looked at google and saw Mr. William Hartnell in his smug pose
and realized who I had to sketch.
I did not grow up with this, the original renegade ornery mad
scientist of a doctor, but once I saw the episodes (originally aired
in 1963-66) I knew he was ultimately my favorite despite how
much we all love Tom Baker and the current version.

IDW

It's already been announced that I'll be doing some Dr. Who comics for IDW so
I thought I'd post another sneak peek before I have to hunker down and get
this issue finished! Matt Smith's face is very easy to capture by the way.
Rory (Arthur Darvill) on the other hand...is a pain. But I managed.

Strange Tales from Marvel Comics

Issue 3 of Marvel's "Strange Tales" hits the stands this week
and it contains plenty of good stuff!

One of those good things is a story written and illustrated
by myself featuring Machine Man and Agatha Harkness! I know
many of you have been clamoring for more Agatha action!!
Check it out! One sale this week! After that, all copies
will be pulped! Never to be seen again!

Irvin Kershner

As you all no doubt know, "Empire Strikes BAck" director
Irvin Kershner Passed away. I know he directed many other
films besides "Empire," but that movie stands out for
people of a certain age for so many reasons.

I realized as I drew this that I've
NEVER drawn a Star Wars character.
Darth is hard to master!

Veterans Day

Not sure what's happening at Drawbridge today, but
I did this to simply acknowledge the people who
serve, and those who have served and are no
longer with us.

Atari

Atari?
A bit of confution today.
Theme is either "Atari" or “Sequels that were
never made.” I started doing one before it changed
but no matter!

I combined them!

Thus,
Next year will see Atari re-enter the field of
video games with “Look Who’s Talkin’ Bout a
Battlefield Earth 3000” the video game (to be followed
by the movie of the same name).

Synopsis:
Creepy talking baby Mikey is “assumptin-ated” in the
year 3000 to help his criminon prison-escapee(holographic) dad
(Played by John Travola) find their Thetan source
and and kill Psychlos for life points. Baby Mikey
is voiced this time around by an assumptin-ated
Charles Nelson Reilly!

new pen doodle

Went to Kinokuniya this weekend to get more ink cartridges, and while there bought
some markers and ink pens I never used before. Thus this doodle.
I admit I did most of this with the Pentel brush pens you can get
at Kinokuniya, but I tried out two other new ink pens on various
parts.

It's a bit of a mess as far a doodles go...

Conan issue 24

Issue 24 of Dark horse's Conan comic is on the stands this
week with pinups by myself and many others.

Dazzler redesign

With NYCC taking over NYC for the rest of the week, Simon thought we would redesign Dazzler’s costume this Wednesday over at Drawbridge.

Deepesh Lord of light and sun!
Born in Delhi , the daughter of the goddess Lakshmi and a human scientist, Deepesh is imbued with the power to turn her mantra chants into blinding light.
Being young and untrained though, she accidentally blinded herself at age 12 when she disobeyed her mother and put on a massive lazar light show using her powers.
Now she wanders the Earth, as punishment for being so disobedient, helping mortals with the aid of her magic cat, Dhruv who acts as her eyes when needed and often eats Lasagna to the detriment of his health.

Vertigo

Today the theme at Drawbridge is, unfortunately, again a sad one similar to
last weeks. Vertigo, an imprint of DC Comics, let go of three of their long
time editors this week and it appears (I don’t know all the details) that Vertigo
will reduce it’s out put in general.

Good luck to Pornsak Pichetshote, Jonathan Vankin, and Joan Hilty!

As for today’s theme, I first thought I should pay homage to all the above
editors somehow. Then I realized that would not be a sketch, that would be
a poster that would take all day. And I can’t pick one and dis the other two!

So I’ll just point out some of the great books they've put out:
THE UNWRITTEN, CUBA ,HOW TO UNDERSTAND ISRAEL IN 60
DAYS OR LESS,THE QUITTER, INCOGNEGRO,
and REVOLVER

Rather, moving forward, I draw your attention to a book that I hope
survives anymore belt tightening. “Scalped” by Jason Aaron,
and R. M. Guéra is book I quite enjoy. Enough said.

Geronimo is NOT in scalped by the way. I… just like Geronimo and
Scalped is set on the Prairie Rose Indian Reservation. It was
that or a hot babe next to a casino sign and who
wants to see that?
